Thanks for checking out the information for the wedding. I assume if you got here you’ve got an invite, if not, we’re really sorry but we can’t have the whole world there 😉
We’re getting married on Friday 7th August 2015!
Please reply to Darren via firstname.lastname@example.org .
Please RSVP with dietary requirements by 9th March 2015 at the latest, but the sooner the better.
The venue is relatively small and can’t accommodate everyone.
- If your invitation said a room was reserved for you : Your room’s been reserved for the night before the wedding, and the night of the wedding. Although we’ve pencilled names against rooms, it’s up to you to contact the hotel and book your night.Don’t feel obligated to stay both nights, especially if you’re local, but we’ll probably have a meal the night before and we have it exclusively if everyone stays there. Please let us know if you have used the reserved room on the RSVP so we can re-allocate if you don’t want to stay at the hotel.
- If your invitation didn’t mention accommodation :There’s quite a few places in and around Banchory and these are mentioned below.
Where Is it, And Directions
The wedding and shennanigans will all take place at Banchory Lodge Hotel which is about 30 miles West of Aberdeen, in the North East of Scotland.
If you fly, Aberdeen is your best destination. Glasgow is around 3.5hrs from Banchory, and Edinburgh about 2.5hrs.
You will be best to hire a car although there is public transport available. You won’t get want to get a taxi from the airport as it will cost you a lot!
There are quite a few B&Bs and Hotels in and around Banchory. The list below starts at the places closest to the venue :
Village Guest House (main road in Banchory)
Tor-na-Coille (nicer Country House Hotel, about 1km away)
Raemoir House Hotel (nice Country House Hotel, outside of town, not walkable. Recommended but not because of the distance)
Have a look around Tripadvisor for Banchory Hotels and B&Bs. Note that Learney Arms mentioned is quite a bit out of Banchory so I wouldn’t pick that.
What’s Happening On The Day
Most people will be staying at the hotel the night before, and apologies to those we can’t fit in!
Dress as you wish, yes that even includes jeans if you want to. I’ll have a kilt, and Ciara will be looking fabby, but there’s no need to go and buy new dresses, new hats or anything you won’t wear again! It’s a celebration of 9 awesome years together, and an excuse to party and see all you lovely people (…and Johnny Jazz ;-> ).
These timings have to be confirmed with the hotel but here’s the outline so far :
2PM : Ceremony
3PMish : Light Munchies
5PM : Dinner
8PM : Live Music
Please drink responsibly 😉 It’s a long day, and everything will be happening at the hotel, so no driving to worry about, once you’re there that’s the hard part done.
What Else Is Happening?
We only arrive a few days before the wedding and will have things to finalise and sort out. We are having a family dinner on the Saturday evening (day after), and Ciara and I are planning on spending a few days on the West Coast from Monday 10th after the wedding. We’ll be back in Aberdeen late in the week and flying to Bali on the Saturday 15th.
Unfortunately this means we won’t have as much free time as would be ideal so hopefully we’ll be able to spend as much time as possible with you all the evening before, and the day of the wedding.
We’re keeping this wedding quite simple. We want you there more than anything. Gifts are entirely optional, and we’re not ones to have huge gift lists…but at the same time we know people will ask so we’ve mentioned some things below. Remember we’re heading back to the other side of the world and have very limited luggage (my kilt is half of it!).
We are heading to Bali for our honeymoon on the way back, and we hope to set up our own home soon, so we’ve skewed the wish list accordingly!
The date has been set and we’d love you to come,
To celebrate our wedding, a long way for some,
All you must do, is decide what to wear,
Then polish your jewellery and comb up your hair.
Don’t worry about gifts, don’t buy us a yacht,
(well you can if you reaaally want to!)
The things that we need, we’ve already got.
Our home is quite compact, we may have to move
Then our storage and space will surely improve.
Don’t go out shopping or get yourself stressed,
Don’t alter your plans for a pre wedding rest.
If you want to be generous, despite what we’ve said,
Then save all the hassle and do this instead….
Don’t know how to word this but will give it our best shot…
Contributions are most welcome, for our new kiwi plot.
A new home would be marvellous, and it will have a room for you,
To come and see us live our life as we start a new chapter soon.
(Note – things are in New Zealand Dollars so 10 NZD is around 5 UKP / 6 EUR – i.e. around half NZD)
